Navigating Human Depth in Thai and Singapore Contemporary Art
Curator : Loredana Pazzini-Paracciani
1 – 30 June 2013
ANTHROPOS aims at researching a subject of collective concern: the recesses of human depth where the metaphysical realm of the mind encounters the physical space of the body.
The body as a collective volume operates within the physical and the psychological, conceiving the presence of the human form as the beginning of all matters.
Experimenting with the idea of the body as a presence at times only conceptually inferred, this exhibition dwells with the inner multiplicity of the human nature, a space where the private and public converge.
Shifting between daily individual practices and public self-expressions, the body is expected to negotiate familiar realms in relation to social or individual conditioning.
In the act of mediating opposite yet complementary spaces, how does the body respond to social obligations and voyeuristic expectations? How does it conciliate contrasting social forces such as acceptance and exclusion? How does the human psyche adjust to the tyranny of identity?
